Description
Six page draft list of 172 plates of watercolor on vellum botanical compositions created by Balthasar Cattrani. Some draft titles on list are uncertain and noted with question mark.
Written in pencil by unknown hand: "original gouache compositions of flowers on vellum from the library of the late Eugène de Beauharnais, probably made for Empress Josephine, circa 1800."
Written in pencil in upper right corner: "F.R. - N.E. cupbd. Bottom right." This may refer to a location of the plates in the Founders' Room, northeast cupboard, bottom right.
Unknown creator, possibly Anne Sweeney as she worked with Beatrix Farrand and Mildred Bliss on acquiring books and materials for the Garden Center library.
Date of creation uncertain. Probably created between 1940, when Dumbarton Oaks was donated to Harvard University and before Mildred Bliss' death in 1969.
The plates with devised title, Collection de botanique, Hollis #009578743, are held by the Dumbarton Oaks Rare Book Collection. Current plate order does not match numbered draft title list.
