Description
Mildred Bliss apologizes for not answering his letter sooner, but she had an official guest and the Harvard University provost, Paul H. Buck, visiting as well as dealing with Robert Bliss being in the hospital. Robert Bliss is now back home following his hospitalization and doing satisfactorily. She mentions that Ellis Russell, Mr. Bliss' assistant will send him a check for the work he has done on changing the Cool House (greenhouse) into a Garden Center. Mildred Bliss is going to visit with John Thacher and will recommend a "mechanism for the activities to be undertaken once the Garden Endowment Fund is officially established." She thanks him for sending the new sketches to John Thacher for a proposed Garden Center in the locations of the Tennis Court, south of the service court on 32nd Street, and for the area north of the museum. These drawings are titled "Garden Library, Dumbarton Oaks, Harvard Univ., Washington, D.C." dated, August, 1951. The drawings can be found in the Dumbarton Oaks Archives, with accession numbers: AR.AP.MW.GL.001a, AR.AP.MW.GL.001b, AR.AP.MW.GL.001c.
