Description

In Beatrix Farrand's Plant Book for Dumbarton Oaks (page 67-68), Beatrix Farrand suggested that autumn plantings for the Fountain Terrace be: "Chrysanthemums in various shades, with bronze, deep brown, and maroon."

On verso: Typewritten label: "Fountain Terrace, potted flowers." Stamped in blue ink: "17" , "This is a Kodachrome Print, Made by Eastman Kodak Company, T.M. Regis. U.S. Pat. Off. Week of August 5, 1957, 22 2". In brown ink: "46." In faded ink: "Ftn. Terrace."

Because of the type of flowers planted and growth of those flowers and surrounding foliage, it is possible the photograph was taken between 1956-1957.
