Description
Beatrix Farrand and her office staff created drawings for the design of the Fountain Terrace, also referred to as Terrace D.
Three copies of photograph in collection:
Copy A: 7.75 x 9.75 inches, white border. On verso: Typewritten label: "Fountain Terrace, 2 jets before lead boy fountains." Handwritten label: "Fountain Terrace, 2 jets before lead boy fountains" ; "Flower garden looking south - before lead fountains -." ; "B-105".
Copy B: 8.0 x 10.0 inches, white border. On verso: Typewritten label: "Fountain Terrace, 2 jets before lead f[oun]t[ai]ns." Handwritten in pencil: "#190, Fountain Terrace and jets of water, but no cherubs." Stamped in black ink: "NOT TO BE REPRODUCED, Without Written Authorization From The Dumbarton Oaks Research Library And Collections, Washington, DC."
Copy C: 7.25 x 9.5 inches, no border. On verso: Typewritten label: "Fountain Terrace, 2 jets before lead boy fountains" ; "18.5," crossed out and replaced with pencilled, "18.1." Handwritten label in pencil: "Fountain Terrace, 2 jets before lead boy fountains" ; "Flower Garden looking South (before fountains)" ; "Bliss" ; "B-105."
#190 refers to number of photograph in The Bliss Album of Garden Photographs. These photographs are attributed to Stewart Bros. Photographers taken around 1929-1932.
