Notes

Medical texts. Wide margins and no discernable numeration. For description, comments on the scribes, provenance &c., see the Wellcome Library page in online resources, taken from Moorat’s catalogue (see bibliography).

If we may impose our own pagination, the contents are as follows:

Pp. 1-36:  Hippocrates’ Aphorisms (TLG 0627.012) with commentaries (TLG 0728.001).
Pp. 36-42:  Prognosticon (TLG 0627.003).
Pp. 43-97:  Scholia in Hippocratis Prognosticon (TLG 0724.002).

As to the authorship of the last, Moorat has “Stephanus Atheniensis. Scholia in Prognostica, here wrongly ascribed to Damascius.” Magdelaine, using both Wellcome 354 and Bononiensis 3636 (our WEST.BOL.1.3) — see her in our bibliography, as well as Byz. Zeit. 94 (2001) 773 (Bibliogr. Notizen nr. 1717) — calls him Damascius. This is what Duffy wrote on his box (see description of our film LON.3.1), but his edition calls him Stephanus (see bibliography). This work was copied by Andreas Darmarius of Epidaurus (Vogel & Gardthausen pp. 16-27), in this ms. as well as Vat. gr. 2145 and Yale Medical Library ms. #50 (our NWH.2.2); see further Ihm in bibliography, no. 238 (pp. 202-204).
