Dumbarton Oaks Announces 2019 Summer Interns

Eight Harvard students will undertake an array of projects

Dumbarton Oaks is excited to announce its 2019 summer interns from Harvard University. Assisting with a wide variety of projects, the interns will embed within the institute's administration and programs of study, work with the museum and garden, edit publications, and conduct short-term research. Internships will run from June 3 to August 2, 2019.

  • Lydia Cawley, a rising senior concentrating in Near Eastern languages and civilizations, and Ariana Tyler, a rising senior concentrating in history, will work the Image Collections and Fieldwork Archives on the Syrian Documentation Project.
  • Kaitlyn Degroot, a rising junior concentrating in integrative biology, will inventory current management practices in the Dumbarton Oaks Garden and undertake a comparative study of other historic gardens.
  • Ava Hampton, a rising junior concentrating in history and literature, will work on public programming and outreach, including maintaining and updating educational materials and contributing to Dumbarton Oaks’ social media platforms.
  • Miriam Huettner, who graduated in 2017 with a concentration in English, will research and catalog materials pertaining to the historical documentation of the Dumbarton Oaks Garden in the Garden Archives.
  • Cassandra Luca, a rising junior concentrating in English and linguistics, will research the history of onsite and external labor and production that sustained the Dumbarton Oaks estate.
  • Justin Tseng, a rising junior concentrating in ancient history, will assist with the online catalogs of Byzantine coins and seals.
  • Louis Zweig, a graduate student in classics, will edit translations for the Dumbarton Oaks Medieval Library series.
