Bamforth & Co.

New York, New York, USA, 1906-1990 (Publisher)

Bamforth & Co. began in Holmfirth, England in 1870. The founder, James Bamforth (1841-1911), originally manufactured lantern slides. In 1890 he also began producing illustrated song lyric slides for singalongs, which became immensely popular and contributed to the company's success. Using its vast photo inventory, Bamforth began publishing postcards and became most famous for their seaside images. They opened a New York Office at 35 West Twenty-first Street in 1906 and conducted business there for most of the 20th century.
