Doubleday, Doran & Company

In 1897, Frank Nelson Doubleday (1862–1934) and Samuel S. McClure (1857–1949) founded the publishing house, Doubleday & McClure Company, which in 1900 became Doubleday, Page & Company, with Walter Hines Page (1855–1918) as a partner. In 1910, Doubleday built Country Life Press at Garden City, New York, and established a chain of more than thirty book shops. In 1927, Doubleday and Page absorbed the George H. Doran Company of New York City (1908–1927) and was known as Doubleday, Doran & Company until 1946, when it became Doubleday & Company, Inc.
