G. Hartmann & Cie

Paris, France (Publisher)

G. Hartmann & Cie, Éditeurs, was a French publishing company founded in Paris by Georges Hartmann (1843–1900) in 1868. The firn was the exclusive publisher of the music of Jules Massenet between 1870 and 1891. His company also published the music of other prominent French composers, including Saint-Saëns, Bizet, Delibes, Godard, and Lalo. Hartmann was an accomplished librettist (writing under the pseudonym Henri Grémont.) and contributed to operatic works by Massenet, Messager, Hahn, and others. Bankruptcy ultimately forced Hartmann to sell his catalog in 1891 to Henri Heugel (18441916). Hartmann continued to publish in association with Eugène Fromont.
