George Laurence Nelson (1887–1978) was a twentieth-century American painter. He was born as George Laurence Hirschberg in New Rochelle, New York; both of his parents, Carl Hirschberg and Alice Kerr-Nelson, were important artists in the American art scene. Nelson studied and taught art in New York City before moving to Europe for two years to continue his studies. In 1919 he moved to Seven Hearths in Kent, Connecticut, where he began a summer school for painting and where he lived for the rest of his life.
