TRANSCRIPTION

Villas Romaines Célèbres [famous Roman villas]. Villa d'Este - Vue du Palais [view of the palace].

EXHIBITION

Transplanting the Renaissance: Italian Villa Gardens in America, 1900-1940
May-August 2018

Images of Italian gardens circulated in many different forms. One might buy this souvenir booklet of “Memories from Tivoli” as personal memorabilia or send a postcard to a friend to share the experience. These same images were also used commercially: the collectible trade card of the Villa d’Este was circulated by the Liebig Meat Company, and the stamp of Villa Adriana advertised the site itself.
