Royall Tyler wrote an incomplete autobiography that chronicled his life up to the First World War. A photocopy is at the Massachusetts Historical Society in Boston, Massachusetts, in the Walter Muir Whitehill Papers, N-2177, carton no. 70. The unpublished manuscript is divided into five sections with the following headings: I. The Start; II. Harrow; III. Oxford and Salamanca; IV. German and French; and V. Historian?.
