Mrs. Francis H. Leggett (1852–1931)

Elizabeth ("Betty or Bessie") McLeod married William Sturges (d. 1894) in 1875, and had a daughter, Alberta Sturges Montagu, in 1877. In 1895, she married Francis Howard Leggett (1840–1909), the owner of a prosperous wholesale grocery firm. That same year, she became a life-long devotee of Swami Vivekananda (1863–1902) after attending his classes in New York City. She spent part of each year in Europe, where she entertained lavishly in her London house and Paris apartment.
