Dear Robert,

I was delighted to get your confirmation, by your letter of July 31,This reference is either to the letter that Mildred Barnes Bliss wrote to Elisina Tyler on July 31, 1950, or to a letter by Robert Woods Bliss written on that date, the whereabouts of which are unknown. that you and Mildred expect to reach Washington not later than Aug. 25. I am due in N.Y. on Aug. 23, as I told you. I may have to go to Washn for a day, anyway, but of course I would go there to see you if you weren’t coming to N.Y. before Sept. 6.

I expect to spend Aug. 11–14 at Antigny, but otherwise to be here till I sail on the “Liberté”SS Liberté, built in 1929 as the SS Europa for the German Norddeutsche Lloyd line. After the Second World War, the French Compagnie Générale Transatlantique took ownership of the vessel as a replacement for the SS Normandie. The refurbished Liberté made her maiden voyage to New York on August 2, 1950. Aug. 17.
