Finance Ministry

Dear Robert,

Just a line to say I’ve heard from BustrosElias (Elie) Bustros, an antiquities dealer in Beirut, Lebanon. that he actually sent off the marriage beltBZ.1937.33. on the 12th inst. I was really frightened lest he might have got wind of the prices fetched at the Guichon sale,Catalogue of the Superb Collection of Rings Formed by the Late Monseiur E. Guilhou, of Paris, Comprising Rings of the Classical Period, Including Egyptian, Phoenician, Greek, Etruscan and Roman Rings, Rings of the Dark Ages, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance and Modern Times . . . Which will be Sold by Auction . . . on Tuesday, the 9th of November 1937, and Three Following Days (London: Sotheby and Co, 1937). on the 11th, by the Byz. things.

If that ring No. 460BZ.1947.15. (with the nielloed scenes) fetched £1120, which it did, what would the beltBZ.1937.33. have fetched? Certainly more, I should say: perhaps twice as much.

I’m not going to pay for it till it has actually arrived.

I’m taking the cup,BZ.1938.31. spoon,BZ.1938.32. pincersBZ.1938.33–34. for $250.

Much love to you both
