Robert Woods Bliss to Royall Tyler, August 27, 1947

August 27, 1947.

M. Royall Tyler,

Richemond Hotel,

Geneva, Switzerland.

Dear Royall:

Your letter of August 21st, which came in this morning’s mail, filled us with joy. We never dared to hope that we would see you as soon as we reached England.

We expect, of course, that our sea-trip will be uneventful, and that we shall arrive in London some time the afternoon or evening of September 16th. We shall be at Claridge’sClaridge’s, a luxury hotel in Mayfair, central London. as usual, so if no word reaches us from you on board the “Queen Mary,”RMS Queen Mary, an ocean liner that sailed primarily in the North Atlantic Ocean between 1936 and 1967 for the Cunard Line (known as Cunard-White Star Line when the vessel entered service). we shall expect to have a line from you on arriving at the Hotel in Brook Street.

Enclosed is our latest itinerary,A copy of this enclosure was not retained. which you will see has been subjected to a number of changes since I last wrote. We can talk about our plans beyond Istanbul. We think they will include a trip to Cairo with Tom Whittemore, and his accompanying guidance during a stay in Greece.

With affectionate messages from us both.

Yours always,
