Royall Tyler to Robert Woods Bliss, May 27, 1912

27 May 1912Monday.

Dear Robert.

Demotte, having lost your address, asks me to forward you the enclosed. I have seen the little statue,BZ.1912.2. and you and Mildred must not on any account omit to look at it. There is nothing so fine in the Louvre;Musée du Louvre, Paris. and the Keeper of the Sculpture at S. Kensington, whom I took to see it, says it is finer even than Mr. Morgan’sJohn Pierpont Morgan (1837–1913), an American financier, banker, and art collector. famous and rather similar one.Probably a French (lower Rhone valley) marble Virgin and Child, which was a gift of the J. Pierpont Morgan estate to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1917 (17.190.717). This sculpture is dated to the mid-fourteenth century. Best love from us both to Mildred and you.

Royall Tyler.
