Commentary
Neither this coin nor DOC 2.1:311, no. 140 has a legible obverse.
The attribution to Thessalonike is a hypothesis based on comparison with the obverse of the Thessalonian solidus of Heraclius (MIB 3: no. 81, in Paris); see MIB 3:91 for the argument, based on comparison with the copper coins with mint mark.
