Commentary

Grierson attributed this coin to Rome, but Hahn (MIBEC 109, no. 84) later catalogued it under Sicily. Coin finds of this type in Rome (Crypta Balbi, Forum) and in the Latium hoard, lead Morrisson and Prigent (“La monetazione in Sicilia nell’età bizantina,” 428) to retain Grierson's attribution to Rome. Cf. DOC 1:259, no. 209.4.
