This coin continues the old fifth-century centenionalis at 1/120 of a pound. It circulated only in the region of Cherson, as shown by the local finds. See E. S. Stoljarik, Essays on Monetary Circulation in the North-Western Black Sea Region in the Late Roman and Byzantine Periods: Late 3rd Century–Early 13th Century AD, 66–69.
