Commentary
This is a very rare transitional coin issue with an exergue of NIKM instead of NIKO, as on most issues of year 12 (537/538). NIKM is found on previous earlier (undated) issues. Bendall has catalogued another specimen, pierced, with a Kyrie boethei inscription on obverse margin; see S. Bendall, “A Byzantine Numismatic Amulet,” 87.
