Commentary

All pentanummia of Phokas, except MIBEC 197, no. 89, have as reverse mark of value. The diameter of the reverse die here is larger than the obverse. It is possible that the reverse was struck by an earlier die (of a Justinian I pentanummium?) and could be placed earlier in the reign before MIBEC 191, no. 67.

Cf. DOC 2.1:170, no. 40.1 (similar).
