Creative Process Curricular Support

Grades 9–12 | This activity guide provides teachers and students with resources that align with the Creative Process unit of the DCPS Arts Framework for high school students.

As part of the Creation learning arc, students explore how material adds value and meaning to art. By highlighting textiles and fabric works from the Byzantine and Pre-Columbian Collections at Dumbarton Oaks, this guide encourages students to think critically about the intended form, function, and significance of objects, and connect these with their processes of creation. A variety of activities are provided, included a video-led critical thinking activity, close-looking activities, and several art projects that seek to emphasize individual action in the creative process, as well as the interconnectedness of people, places and experiences in textile art.
