In 1721, around the same time that Fischer von Erlach produced his Anfang Einiger Vorstellungen der vornehmsten Gebäude so wohl innerhalb der Stadt als in denen Vorstädten von Wien, the Augsburg-trained draftsman and engraver Salomon Kleiner (1700–61) made a series of views of Vienna. Although their quality varies depending on the engraver who executed them, these engravings rank among the best vedute of the eighteenth century.
In 1722, Kleiner entered the service of the Schönborn family, whose estates in Austria and Franconia he represented in a large set of engravings; back in Vienna in 1727, he produced a supplementary series, which included the plan of the Schloss Schönborn at Göllersdorf.
In 1729, Kleiner drew the Upper Belvedere, located in the outskirts of Vienna, for Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663–1736). This section shows the sequence of rooms in the central pavilion. Ascending the grand staircase to the piano nobile level, the visitor approaches the marble hall, the most impressive in the palace.
