View of the Entrance to Schonbrunn Palace

View of the Entrance to Schonbrunn Palace

This impressive view shows the entrance to the Schonbrunn Palace, one of Fischer von Erlach’s most significant commissions. The architect’s initial designs were so stupendous, they were deemed impossible to carry out. The hunting lodge that was eventually built became the official residence of Empress Maria Theresa (1717–80), who embellished and enlarged the structure.
