Mosaic with Erotes Fishing

This mosaic depicts erotes, or winged youths related to the god Eros, son of Venus. The figures cast nets and fish for a charming array of sea creatures and shellfish. This fragment was once part of a floor mosaic excavated in Antioch, a prosperous ancient city in today’s Syria. Other examples from these excavations are found embedded throughout the museum and research library (see also Mosaic with Apollo).
