Charles Patin (1633-1693). Imperatorum Romanorum numismata ex ære, mediæ et minimæ formæ. Strassburg : Simon Paul, 1671.
Although a doctor and professor of medicine, Patin is remembered for two influential books on ancient numismatics : Introduction à l’histoire par la connaissance des médailles (1655) and Imperatorum Romanorum numismata (1671), which is included in this exhibition. This volume includes a map of imperial mints, making it the first to associate geography with the study of coins.
