Albert Friend and Paul Underwood worked in close collaboration to reconstruct the iconography of the northern dome of the Holy Apostles on the basis of manuscript illumination. The models are two manuscripts from the Holy Monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos in Greece. The central group of figures is copied from folio 296 verso of the eleventh-century MS Iviron 1 (see here). The inspiration for the ascending and descending apostles on the two sides is drawn from folio 296 verso of the thirteenth-century MS Iviron 5.
