Inscriptions on personal objects highlight particular attributes of holy images meaningful to their owners. The pendant cross is given extra significance with the inscription “light” and “life.” Constantine went a step further on his seal, connecting the divine attributes of the Cross to himself through the inscription, “The Cross is to me, Constantine, light, reason, and life.”
