Margaret Mee and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx met in 1958 during one of Mee’s first exhibitions of her botanical art in Brazil. This led to a lifelong friendship; Mee often sketched plants from Marx’s garden, and the two shared a love and artistic focus on local flora.
