Translation

γραφὰς σφραγίζω θεωφώβου Βασιλεἰῳ.

I seal the letters of God-fearing Basil.

Commentary

There appears to be an error in the last word of the inscription on the reverse, where the owner's name is given in the dative rather than the expected genitive. We take the adjective θεόφοβος to mean that the owner was a monk.

The inscription is metrical but contains an extra syllable.
