Commentary
In his unpublished catalogue of the Shaw collection, Laurent deciphered the obverse monogram as μητάτορ (assuming a homophonic ο in place of the expected ω). This reading is plausible but unusual in that contemporary monogrammatic seals normally present an invocative monogram above the eagle and the owner's name on the reverse.
