Commentary

In his unpublished catalogue of the Shaw collection, Laurent read the owner's name as John and his office as χαρτουλάριος βασιλικοῦ σιτοβουλείου, which is not supported by the letters visible. The office of chartoularios is certain, but what follows cannot be read with certainty. We hesitantly propose the reading βούλλα but this is far from certain as well.
