Commentary
Samuel Bourtzes is known to have participated in a failed plot against Romanos III Argyros in 1029, but was restored to favor. His poor generalship later helped bring about a Byzantine defeat at the hands of the Patzinaks in 1050. See also PBW : Samuel 104.
