Translation

Πατέκου (?) τοῦ Ἀβαρικοῦ.

(Seal of) Patekos Avarikos.

Commentary

There is no obvious solution to the monogram on the obverse. We can be sure that the name is in the genitive case from the ΟΥ at the corners of the central letter. If we imagine that the large Π that frames the monogram is the first letter of the owner's name, then Patekos (Πατέκου) becomes a possibility.

The reading of Avarikos is not in doubt, but it is not clear whether this refers to the owner's Avar origins or represents a triumphal epithet bestowed upon him.
