Commentary
This and the seal of the tourmarches Eudokimos Epiginkles (BZS.1951.31.5.1322) belong to the same individual. Our seal likely dates from the years between 1020 and 1050. W. Seibt had previously suggested that the surname should be related to the toponym Ginklarion (Γιγκλάριον or Γιγγλάριον); see Belke and Mersich, Phrygien und Pisidien, TIB 7 (Vienna, 1990), 260. The surname Ἐπιγίγγλης is attested in the tenth-century; see V. von Falkenhausen, “Eudokimos Epigingles, Turmarch und Merarch” and PmbZ 25945.
