Commentary
Dodecasyllabic. In addition to the DO seals, there are specimens in Paris (BN 1205), Sofia (Museum of Archaeology 140), and two in the Zacos Collection. This group may be related to three other types belonging to Epiphanios Kamateros and dated to late eleventh century: the DO seals and Spink 127: 48. See also PBW : Epiphanios 20107.
The abbreviation mark following letter "A" in the third line of the inscription on the reverse appears to be superfluous. However, the fact that this mark appears consistently on several seals produced with different boulloteria makes it difficult to explain its presence by engraving error.
