Standing figure of Saint George ("the Swift") holding a lance in right hand, his left hand resting on a shield set on the ground. Inscription in two columns: |Γ|Ε||ΓΙ̣Ο,|Ο|ΓΟΡ|Γ, : ὁ ἅ(γιος) Γεώργιος ὁ Γοργ(ός). Border of dots.

Translation

Ἄγιε Γεωργίε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Βορήλῳ.

Saint George, help your servant Borilos. 

Commentary

The owner of this seal will have been the Borilos noted as a servant of Nikephoros III Botaneiates; see McGeer and Nesbitt, Byzantium in the Time of Troubles, 176-77, 189-90.

Wassiliou-Seibt has published a metrical seal of Borilos, attested with the title protoproedros, in Siegel mit metrischen Legenden I, no. 370.
