Commentary

An interestingly conceived depiction of the Annunciation, the seal functioning almost as a diptych with the angel Gabriel on one side, the Virgin on the other. Turning the seal on a vertical axis unites the scene and the epigraphy (Luke I: 26: Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee).
