Commentary

This specimen and BZS.1951.31.5.966, although coming from different boulloteria, have the same decoration and inscriptions. Since they appear to date from the same period, it is likely that they belonged to the same owner. A metropolitan of Pompeioupolis named Basil is attested in February 997 (Grumel, Regestes, no. 804). Another seal of a Basil of Pompeioupolis is published by Zacos, Seals II, no. 958.
