Nicholas magistros, "man" (?) of the raiktor (tenth/eleventh century)

 
 

Obverse

A patriarchal cross (x at the lower transverse bar) mounted on a base of four steps. Fleurons rise on both sides. Within a border of dots, a circular inscription along the circumference, beginning at seven o'clock:

Κ(ύρι)ε βοήθη τῷ σῷ δούλ(ῳ)

Translation

Κύριε βοήθη τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Νικολάο μαγήστρῳ τῷ τοῦ ῥέκτορος.

Lord, help your servant Nicholas magistros, "man" of the rhaiktor.

Commentary

We have interpreted the phrase ὁ τοῦ ῥέκτορος as "man" of the raiktor, but it may mean that the owner was a relative or protégé of this official.
