Translation

Θεοτόκε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Μαριανῷ βασιλικῷ στράτωρι.

Mother of God, help your servant Marianos, imperial strator.

Commentary

On both sides this seal shows evidence of having been struck twice. In the lower field on the obverse, the remains (upside down) of an invocation can be seen, while in the lower field of the reverse the remnants of "imperial spatharios" can be made out. Whether this reflects a promotion given to the owner or simply his re-use of another man's seal is not clear.
