Commentary
Only one prelate named Gregory occupied the throne before the fourteenth century (Gouillard, Synodikon, 114; cf. Catalogus codicum astrologorum graecorum 8/3 [1912] 44). The Protaton specimen is still attached to the document that it was intended to authenticate, dated 2 August 943.
