Commentary
The letters ΡΟ in the right-hand column are reversed in position.
It is unusual to find military saints on seals after the early eleventh century wearing civil costume. On this seal, neither saint wears the traditional chlamys fastened by a clasp at the right shoulder, but rather a mantle drawn together and fastened in front of the chest, as seen on a number of images of courtly officials from the tenth century onwards.
