Bust of St. George holding a spear in his right hand and a round shield in his left hand. Vertical inscription on either side: ε|ρ-γ|ιο: Ὁ ἅ(γιος) Γεώργιος. No border visible.

Inscription of seven lines, a decoration above. Border of dots.

Translation

Ῥωμανὸς πατρίκιος, ὕπατος, μέγας χαρτουλάριος, κριτὴς τοῦ βήλου καὶ τῶν Βουκελαρίων ὁ Γενέσιος.

Romanos Genesios, patrikios, hypatos, grand chartoularios, judge of the Velum and of the Boukellarioi.

Commentary

This seal is connected to two others published by Laurent, (Corpus II, nos. 1018 and 1019), both decorated with a bust of St. George and identifying a Romanos Genesios, prefect of Constantinople (mid-eleventh century).
