Lord, help your servant Constantine imperial protospatharios epi tou Chrysotriklinou.

Commentary

The image on the obverse is very similar to those appearing on gold coins of Basil II and Constantine VIII in the period before 989; see Grierson, DOC III/2, 613-16, and nos. 1-2 on plate XLIII.
