Translation

Κομνηνοδούκας ἀλλὰ πατροπαππόθεν Ἰσαάκιος τούσδε τυπῶ τοὺς τύπους.

I, Isaac, a Komnenos and Doukas, but from my paternal grandfather, am the one engraving these graven letters.

Commentary

The inscription is all the more remarkable for its declaration that the owner's descent from the Komnenoi and Doukai issues from his grandfather through his paternal line; in other words, it is a blood and not a marital connection with these two illustrious families that he wishes to emphasize.

Note the use of accent marks in the inscription.
