Half length of the Virgin orans; lower right area of image is effaced. Sigla: ̅ – Θ̅Υ̅ : Μή(τη)ρ Θ(εο)ῦ. Border of dots.

Commentary

The portrait type of Christ on the obverse is similar to those appearing on coins issued by Theodora (1055-1056); Michael VII (1071-1078); and the Class I of the Anonymous Folles (c. 1075- c. 1080) (see DOC 3:2, 748-753 and 798-820, pls. 62 and 66-68).
