DOCENT-LED WALK-IN TOURS

All docent-led walk-in tours are free and first come, first served.

Garden Tour

2:10 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, weather permitting.

This 30-minute introductory tour shows visitors select areas and introduces them to the history, design, and development of the gardens. Garden tours are year-round, except August and federal holidays, and subject to cancellation without prior notice due to inclement weather, closures, or docent availability. Meet docent at the booth near the garden gate. Limited to 10 people.

Accessibility: In keeping with its topography and historic design, our hillside gardens present several challenges to visitors with limited mobility, including steep inclines, slippery surfaces, loose gravel walkways, staircases, and other impediments.

Lasting Impressions Tour

1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, and Fridays, November 4 and November 18, 2022

Explore our monumental soon-to-close special exhibition, Lasting Impressions, with a 30-minute docent-led tour. Discover how this exhibition, drawn from the world’s largest Byzantine seal collection, illuminates some ways seemingly everyday objects can reveal stories of people, politics, and society of an often-unexamined world. Limited to 10 people. Meet by the front desk in the Museum lobby.

FELLOW-LED WALK-IN GALLERY CONVERSATIONS

All fellow-led walk-in gallery conversations are free and first come, first served.

Lasting Impressions Gallery Conversation

Join us for a gallery conversation featuring objects from our special exhibition Lasting Impressions. Each session, facilitated by a Dumbarton Oaks Post-Baccalaureate Fellow, will feature one of the Byzantine seals currently on view. Seals provide unique insight into the lives of individuals in the Byzantine Empire, and these conversations will give participants the opportunity to discover the story behind an object through close-looking and inquiry using Harvard Project Zero Thinking Routines. Limited to 10 people. Meet by the front desk in the Museum lobby. Gallery conversations last approximately 15 minutes and will take place on:

  • Thursday, November 10th at 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday, November 16th at 11:30 AM
  • Tuesday, November 29th at 2:00 PM
