Obverse

Bust of St. Gregory, bearded, dressed as a bishop, blessing with his right hand and a book in his left. Remains of a vertical inscription legible at left: ο|γ|ρη|γο|ρ, : Ὁ ἅγιος Γρηγόριος ... . Indeterminate border.

Reverse

Inscription of seven lines. Indeterminate border.

Κύριε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Γρηγορίῳ πατρικίῳ, πραιποσίτ, βεστάρχ (καὶ) ἐπὶ τῶν δεήσεων (?)

Translation

Κύριε βοήθει τῷ σῷ δούλῳ Γρηγορίῳ πατρικίῳ, πραιποσίτῳ, βεστάρχῃ καὶ ἐπὶ τῶν δεήσεων (?).

Lord, help your servant Gregory patrikios, praipositos, vestarches and master of petitions (?).

Commentary

Since the remains of the sigla on the saint's left are illegible we cannot say with certainty which St. Gregory is depicted.
